Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City softball started off a busy week with an early two losses to Pratt Community College this afternoon, falling first 12-10 in an offensive battle and then dropping the second game 4-2.
Game one started with zeros for both sides until the bottom of the third inning. Dodge ended the third after putting eight runs on the board including a three-run homerun by
Shelby Bowman.
Then two strong offensive innings in the fourth and fifth for Pratt allowed the Beavers to take the lead 9-8 heading into the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, PCC tabbed three more runs to take a 12-8 lead going into the bottom of the frame.
Ashley Beavers started the Conqs off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Lindsey Karlin then walked to put runners at first and second. After a pitching change,
Heather Amen reached on a fielder's choice that put runners again at first and second with one out.
Both runners moved up to scoring position on a wild pitch and
Taryn Garza reached on a fielding error by second base, before getting caught on the play trying to take second. Karlin scored and Amen advanced to third, leaving one runner on base and two outs on the board.
Dodge tabbed one more run when Bowman doubled to right field to score Amen, but the Beavers then found the third out on a grounder to the shortstop to end the game 12-10.
Bowman went 205 with four RBIs on a double and homerun. She also had five putouts in the game.
Chantal Prester owned a 3-4 performance with one run in the game and Karlin boasted a 3-4 performance with two RBIs, two runs and a walk.
Taryn Garza tabbed two hits in the game and Amen,
Courtney Rettig,
Kaitlyn Amaral, Beavers and
Danielle Aldana all had solo hits. Aldana and Beavers also had RBIs in the game.
Jordan Mecham earned the start, scattering five earned runs on six hits while fanning one in 3.2 innings pitched.
Lauren Kelley (3-6) picks up the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits and 0.2 innings pitched.
Mia Trujillo closed out the final 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out one.
The Beavers came out ready in game two, collecting one run in the first, two in the second and another in the third to start the game.
DC3 brought things to 1-1 in the first inning on singles from Amen and Bowman. Amen leading off, stealing second and Bowman brining her around the bases with a single up the middle.
The Conqs managed to cross another run in the fourth inning, starting with a double to left field by Bowman. She moved to third on a foul out by Rettig and scored on a single up the middle by Prester.
Bowman went 2-3 with one RBI and one run in the game. She also had 12 putouts and one assist. Beavers also went 2-3 in the game. Prester owned the RBI on her hit and Karlin, Amen and Rettig all owned one hit in the game. Amaral had one putout and six assists in the game as well.
Tristan Rathgeber (2-2) picks up the loss after scatting four runs, two of which were earned, on six hits while striking out three. She pitched 2.2 innings and saw 15 batters. Kelley again came in as relief, giving up noe runs in game two and allowing only three hits after 15 batter's faced.
The Conqs will return to Legends Park this Friday, April 17 to take on Seward County at 2 and 4 p.m.
