Thursday Previews: DC3 men, women host Allen in first KJCCC home games

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College men's and women's basketball teams will be in action Thursday as they host their first KJCCC games of the season with the Conquistadors taking on Allen County at the Dodge Civic Center. The women's game gets things underway at 6 p.m. and the men's game starts at 8 p.m.

After playing a pair of tough road KJCCC games, the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team finally gets the comforts of home for a conference contest when the Conquistadors host Allen County 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dodge City Civic Center.
The Conqs, who received votes in the latest NJCAA rankings, are coming off a bounce-back 86-75 win on the road over Coffeyville on Saturday after falling to Neosho on the road 85-83 earlier in the week (both of the Conqs' losses this season have been by two points). Five players reached double figures Saturday, led by Coffeyville-native James Newton's 21 points.

Allen opened KJCCC play last week against a pair of ranked teams, falling at home to No. 15 Seward County, 86-76, on Dec. 2 and losing at home to No. 1 Hutchinson, 86-77, Saturday.

Allen, which is 8-4 overall and 0-2 in KJCCC play prior to its game Wednesday night against Garden City, is the second-highest scoring team in the KJCCC at 90.0 points per game while the Conqs are No. 5 at 87.8.

DC3 is one of two teams in the conference shooting over 50 percent from the field (50.1).The Conqs are second to Hutchinson (50.3). DC3's Josh Boutte leads the conference in field goal percentage at 64.4 percent.

Lorenzo Dillard enters the game leading the Conqs in scoring (18.0) and assists (5.3) to go along with 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Newton is averaging 14.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals andBoutte is at 12.6 points anda team-high 8.5 rebounds per contest.

Heading into Wednesday night's game, Jermaine Long leads Allen at 18.0 points per game while DaRon Mims is second in scoring(10.4).

After a six-game road stretch, the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team returns to play at homefor the first time since Nov. 21 when it hosts KJCCC-foe Allen County Community College 6 p.m. Thursday at the Dodge City Civic Center.

The Conqs capped their long road trip (where they went 4-2) with a 110-79 victory over Lamar on Tuesday in Colorado. Rachel Slattery paced the Conqs with 27 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots.

The road trip included the Conqs' first two KJCCC games - a 91-69 win at Neosho on Dec. 2 and a 76-58 loss at Coffeyville on Saturday.

Slattery leads the Conqs in scoring (16.9), rebounding (13.0) and blocks (3.0) to go along with 1.5 steals per game. Talisha Presley is averaging 16.1 points, 4.9 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game while defending KJCCC Player of the Week Antania Newton is averaging 14.8 points, 4.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest. She is alsoleading the conference in 3-point percentage (51.7 percent). Alexus Johnson is also averaging double figures in scoring (11.0) to go along with 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Thursday will be the second of back-to-back games for Allen as the Red Devils played at Garden City late Wednesday night.

Prior to Wednesday, Allen dropped its first two KJCCC games at home to Seward (88-45) and to Hutchinson (81-44) and are 4-8 overall.

Ashley Washington leads the Red Devils in scoring at 11.5 points per game and is followed by Haley Wilson (10.0).
