Box Score LAMAR, Colo. -- The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team used a 15-1 run to start the third quarter to pull away from Lamar Community College for a 110-79 victory Tuesday night on the road.
The Conquistadors (11-2), which trailed at one point 30-25 in the second quarter, held a slim 47-44 advantage at the half before exploding in the final two quarters and outscoring the Runnin' Lopes (4-10) 63-35 in the second half.
The Conqs were led by the 27-point, 10-rebound and five-steal effort of
Rachel Slattery as the freshman post was able to get into the swing of things - particularly in the second half.
"We played a decent first half of basketball tonight, but we played a phenomenal second half," DC3 coach
Mark James said. "We were pretty locked in and remembered Rachel is a really good option for us. She was great tonight, but so were so many other people. We were pretty balanced."
Four other Conqs reached double figures with
Talisha Presley finishing with 16 points,
Alexus Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds,
Dasia Johnson had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists and
Ajhania Smith had 10 points.
Fantasia Johnson had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds and a team-high four assists.
The DC3 110-point effort (tied for a season high) comes a game after the Conqs were held to a season low in scoring during a 76-58 loss at Coffeyville.
DC3 returns to KJCCC play at home Thursday when the Conqs host Allen County 6 p.m. at the Dodge City Civic Center in their first home KJCCC contest and final game before the holiday break.
