DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College men's basketball team will get a non-conference contest in before returning to KJCCC play when the Conquistadors travel to take on Northwest Kansas Tech 6 p.m. Wednesday in Goodland, Kan.
DC3 (10-3 overall) is coming off a tough 97-88 overtime loss to KJCCC-foe Allen County at home Dec. 10 - a game it led by 18 points with nine minutes remaining in the contest. Poor free throw shooting (21-for-42) and an inability to keep Allen from getting to the rim (the Red Devils shot 50 percent from the field) led to the Conq defeat.
All three losses during DC3's strong start to the season have been by either two points or in overtime.
However, one of the Conqs' 10 wins was a 78-65 victory over NWKT (9-6) on Nov. 17 in Dodge City.
Lorenzo Dillard paced DC3 with 20 points and six assists and
James Newton had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead five Conqs in double figures. Kairee Forte came off the bench to lead NWKT with 16 points.
Dillard leads the Conqs in scoring (18.1) and assists (5.1) and is third in steals (1.2), Newton is second in scoring (14.3), second in assists (2.8) and steals (1.3) and is third in rebounding (3.7) while
Josh Boutte is third in scoring (13.8) and first in rebounding (8.8) and blocks (0.8).
As for NWKT, Montrell Williams leads the team in scoring (18.7) and steals (1.3), second in blocks (0.7) and third in rebounds (4.6), Broderick Robinson is second in scoring (12.5) and rebounding (5.1) and leads the team in assists (4.5) and Darius Freeman is third in scoring (11.1) and second in assists (2.2).
