Box Score GLENDALE, Ariz. —
Antania Newton's eight 3-pointers and 26 points led the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team to a bounce-back 91-77 victory over Tohono O'odham on Wednesday afternoon at the Arizona Classic.
The Conquistadors (9-1) went a combined 15-for-30 from 3-point range led by Newton's 8-for-12 performance. Overall, Dodge City shot 53 percent as a team.
The victory comes less than 24 hours after the Conqs suffered their first loss of the season (a 78-72 defeat to Glendale) and coach
Mark James was pleased with his team's effort.
"Today was a good win for us," James said. "It was nice to see us respond positively to our first loss of the year. Bouncing back on such a quick turnaround was good to see."
Along with Newton's 26 points,
Talisha Presley had 21 points (3-for-6 from 3-point range) and eight assists,
Alexus Johnson had 14 points and
Rachel Slattery finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
It was the Conqs' final game before starting KJCCC play Dec. 2 at Neosho.
"I think we got better as a team while in Arizona," James said. "We faced some adversity and won two out of three against three quality opponents. We're looking forward to taking a couple of days off and then jumping into conference play.
"9-1 is a great record, but we're 0-0 in conference right now."
