SATURDAY PREVIEWS: DC3 men travel to N. Platte, DC3 women host Lamar

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College men's and women's basketball teams will both be in action Saturday - but in different locations - as they look to continue their strong starts to the seasons.

The Conq men travel to face North Platte in Nebraska at 7 p.m. while the Conq women will be hosting Lamar 1 p.m. at the Dodge City Civic Center.

DC3 men (7-1) at North Platte (5-1), 7 p.m. Saturday


In a battle of one-loss teams, the DC3 men are going for their fifth win in a row while defeating the Knights for the second time this season.

The Conqs beat North Platte 75-61 on Nov. 3 in Dodge City - using a strong second half that saw DC3 outscore the Knights 46-34 to come away with the win.

Lorenzo Dillard paced the Conqs with 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds, James Newton had 20 points and four assists while Jamie Rutherford had 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Diontae Champion and Jordan Mills both came off the bench for North Platte to lead the team with 12 points apiece.

On the season, Dillard leads the Conqs at 18.8 points per game to go along with 5.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Newton is averaging 13.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists while Josh Boutte is at 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

As for the Knights, Tim Wagner leads the team in scoring with 18.7 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals per contest. Champion is averaging 17.8 points while Tyree Peter is averaging close to a double-double at 10.0 points and 9.7 rebounds.

DC3 women (6-0) vs. Lamar (2-5), 1 p.m. Saturday


A pair of teams looking to push the tempo meet 1 p.m. Saturday as the undefeated Dodge City Community College women's basketball team hosts Lamar Community College at the Civic Center.

The Conqs, who are closing out a four-game home stand before hitting the road for six straight games, lead the KJCCC in scoring at 88.8 points per game while Lamar is averaging 84.0 per game.

The difference is the Conqs are allowing 48.2 points per contest while Lamar is allowing 89.3 per game - including 103.6 per game in its five losses with opponents reaching the 100-point mark four times.

Rachel Slattery is leading DC3 in scoring (18.7), rebounding (10.5) and blocks (3.0) per game while Talisha Presley is first in steals (3.8) and second in scoring (16.5) and assists (3.5). Alexus Johnson is also averaging double figures in scoring at 11.3 per game while Antania Newton is just below double figures at 9.3 per game.

Six-foot sophomore Taryn Frazier enters Saturday's game leading the Runnin' Lopes in scoring (13.0) and rebounding (8.9) while Edina Krusko is second in scoring at 12.9 points per game while averaging 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 steals.
