Box Score LIBERAL, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College men's basketball team jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back in its season opener as six Conquistadors reached double figures in a 96-39 victory over On Point Academy on Friday at the Seward County Classic.
The Conqs (1-0) held On Point scoreless for nearly the first 10 minutes of the game as DC3's length and speed gave its opponents fits.
"The biggest thing I wanted to see was for the guys to come out and play hard," DC3 coach
Kyle Campbell said. "When you hold a team scoreless for 10 minutes, it's safe to say they did that."
The lead quickly grew to 30 points in the first half when
Jordan Sintras drained a 3-pointer to make it 39-9 with 3:59 left in the half as the Conqs cruised to a 45-22 advantage at the break. DC3 wouldn't be threatened the rest of the contest as it continued to build on its large lead.
James Newton,
Josh Boutte and
Sam Edwards paced DC3 with 12 points apiece with Newton adding a team-high four assists and the 7-foot-1 Edwards grabbing a Conq-best nine rebounds.
Lorenzo Dillard and Sintras each had 11 points while
Jeremy Treaudo chipped in with 10.
The Conqs shot 51.7 percent from the field while holding On Point to 24 percent.
Caleb Harris led On Point with 11 points.
The Conqs play its second and final game of the Seward event 5 p.m. Saturday against Fort Carson.
