Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge women's basketball was out for the win tonight with a huge second half 37-29 outing over the Grizzlies. Unfortunately Butler put in a 39-29 first half for the 68-66 overall win over DC3.
Dodge held the opposition to a low 8.3 shooting percentage from long distance, but the visiting team's 38.7 percentage from the field was enough to bring home the win in the Civic Center.
DC3 shot 31.5 from the field and knocked down seven three's while going 25-35 from the free throw line for a 71.4 free throw percentage.
The Grizzlies capitalized with 21 points off turnovers and 36 points in the paint compared to the Conqs' 10 points off turnovers and 14 points in the paint. DC3 gained the edge with 15 second chance points while only allowing six. Both benches worked hard with Dodge's bench collecting 12 points and the opposition owning 11-points off the bench.
Dodge worked back after the 10-point deficit heading into the second half to tie things up 55-55 with 5:40 left on the clock. The advantage went back and forth throughout the next few possessions with the Grizzlies edging away, but the Conqs staying right in the game.
In the last seconds, DC3 fought back to a two-point deficit with six seconds left on the clock after a quick layup by
Azaria Nave. The Conqs then quickly forced a turnover and inbounded the ball on the sideline just an arc's distance away from the bucket. With two seconds left on the clock, DC3s
Hannah Whitaker put in a last minute three-point attempt that fell just short, putting the victory in the Grizzlies court.
Alejandra Esparza had a big game with 12 points and eight rebounds, while putting up one block after a 3-5 performance from the paint a six free throws.
Azaria Nave led the effort with 21 points after knocking down five from the field, three from the arc and going 8-10 from the charity stripe. She added five rebounds, four assists and three steals to the Conqs' stat sheet as well.
Talisha Presley put in four field goals, three three-pointers and went 2-2 from the stripe for her 13-point performance. She owned one block, two steals and four boards as well.
Hannah Whitaker was a key contender for the Conqs' defense with 13 rebounds on the day. She added six points, two steals and led the team with five assists.
Dodge will continue KJCCC play this Saturday, January 31 in the Civic Center as they take on #1 Hutchinson Community College at 5:30 p.m.
