Box Score LAMAR, Colorado: Constant pressure with a Lamar full court press throughout both halves last night, proved too much for the Conqs. Despite owning a 17-point lead at halftime, Lamar's 64-42 second-half output put DC3 under for a 103-98 loss on the road. The Conqs drop to 1-2 on the season thus far.
Five Conqs hit double-digit points against Lamar while three also owned double-digit boards after the game. After the game, DC3 now ranks 1
st nationally with 10.0 blocks per game and 2
nd with 44.0 defensive rebounds per contest.
DC3 came out strong to start, but fell off in the second half, eventually dropping with a small five-point deficit on the day.
Lamar went 34-131 from the field, 11-68 from long range and 24-43 from the charity stripe for their 103 points. DC3 hit 39-86 from the field for a 45.3 field goal percentage, 6-14 from 3-point range (42.9) and 14-28 from the free throw line (50.0).
Azaria Nave led the Conqs with her first triple-double of the 2014-15 season. The sophomore was good for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on the night, while also tallying two steals and one block. She went 7-17 from the field, 3-7 from long range and 5-6 from the charity stripe to help the Conq effort.
Nave now ranks nationally in a multitude of national categories, some of which include 3
rd with 21 assists, 8
th after hitting 10-19 from 3-point range, 9
th with 55 total points and 13
th with a 20-45 field goal output.
Alejandra Esparza added 14 points on the night after shooting 7-16 from field goal range. She also posted seven rebounds and three blocks on the night. Esparza ranks third nationally with 10 blocks so far on the season.
Tara Whipple,
Antania Newton and
Kandra Gasaway all closed out the double-digit points for the Conqs. Whipple went 6-9 from the field while owning one from long range for 13 points, pulling down seven rebounds and posting three assists.
Newton hit four from the field, two from long range and one charity shot for 11 points while posting seven assists, three rebounds and one steal on the night.
Gasaway snagged her first double-double of the season after hitting three from the field and four from the free throw line for 10 points and tabbing 12 boards for the honors. She also tallied three blocks and ranks 4
th in the nation with seven blocks on the season.
Hannah Whitaker had a huge defensive night for the Conqs after pulling down 22 defensive rebounds and seven offensive for 22 total rebounds against Lamar. She was also good for two blocks, one steal, two assists and four points.
Both
Johlicia Williams and
Keiwanna Patterson were good for eight points and seven rebounds apiece. Williams went 3-6 from the field while Patterson tallied four assists, one steal and four from field goal range.
Dodge City continues the week with the Conq Classic hosted by Dodge City Community College Athletics on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8. DC3 women's basketball plays at 5 p.m. while DC3 men's basketball plays a 7 p.m. on both days.
