Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge women's basketball earned their way to a winning record tonight (4-3) after annihilating Lamar 120-69 at home in the Civic Center.
Seven Conqs garnered double-digit figures on the night with
Antania Newton leading the pack with 19 points in the effort. She hit 7-10 from the field, 3-4 from long range and 2-4 from the charity stripe on the night after a perfect first half (6-6 FG, 2-2 three-point) to aid in the Conqs' win.
Both
Tara Whipple and
Alejandra Esparza posted their first double-doubles of the night in the DC3 effort.
DC3 shot a staggering 47.8 from the field after hitting 44-92. They also posted five from long range and went 27-41 from the free throw line. The pulled down 87 rebounds, 62 of which were defensive and 25 that were offensive. Lamar only managed 53 on the night, 29 on defense and 24 on the offensive.
The Conq defense was key tonight, holding the opposition to a lowly 21.0 percent from field goal range and 14.8 from long range.
To start the game, both teams went back and forth, but after two back-to-back good jumpers by
Hannah Whitaker in the sixth minute, Dodge took the lead for the last time.
The Conqs steadily scored to close out the half 30-points up, going into the second half with a 61-31 lead on the night.
Although Lamar scored 38 points in the second half, DC3 outshot the Runnin' Lopes by 21 points to close out with a staggering 51-point lead, by far the highest gap of the season.
Along with Newton's 19, Whitaker, Whipple, Esparza,
Azaria Nave,
Talisha Presley and
Kandra Gasaway saw double-figure points.
Nave put up 16 points on the night along with six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Whipple was good for 13 points and 12 rebounds, while owning four assists and two steals. She hit 5-9 from the field and 3-3 from the stripe on the day.
Esparza put up 12 points and 12 boards for the Conqs, along with two blocks and one assist. Eight of her rebounds were on the offensive and she was good for a 3-6 performance from the paint and 6-10 from the free throw line.
Presley owned 13 points as well as two assists and seven rebounds while both Whitaker and Gasaway posted 10 points on the offensive. Whitaker added six rebounds while Gasaway was good for four and one hard block over the Runnin' Lopes.
Dodge will return to play next Friday and Saturday, November 21-22 in the Pizza Hut Classic hosted by DC3 in the Civic Center in Dodge City, Kansas.
