As the 2026 football season approaches, Dodge City Community College football head coach Ryan Lusby has rounded out his coaching staff with the addition of Xavier Morrow and Wes Murphy. 

Morrow and Murphy join the staff set to work on defense and offense, respectively. Morrow will work with the defensive line, and Murphy will coach runningbacks and work with tight ends. For Morrow, he starts his coaching career at Dodge City having just wrapped up his collegiate playing career, while Murphy brings 10+ years of coaching experience to the Conquistador coaching staff, most recently working at the high school level.

Dodge City provides an opportunity to work alongside an outstanding coaching staff while helping student-athletes reach their full potential. I'm looking forward to building meaningful relationships, developing complete football players, and contributing to a culture that pursues excellence every day," said Murphy on the opportunity to coach at Dodge City.

Working alongside an experienced coaching staff will allow me to continue learning and growing as a coach while helping our student-athletes succeed. It's an honor to be part of the Dodge City family, and I'm looking forward to building meaningful relationships with our players and competing for championships," said Morrow about joining the coaching staff. 

Morrow just finished his collegiate career playing for the University of Nebraska at Kearney during the 2025 season. The Alabama native capped his collegiate playing career taking the field as a defensive end for the Lopers and earned first-team All-MIAA honors for the 2025 season, recording 40 tackles, the fourth-most on the team. He started his playing career at the junior college level at Independence Community College in the KJCCC, suiting up for the Pirates three seasons: 2020 (COVID), 2021, and 2022, where he played for Conqs defensive coordinator Steve McCollom. During the 2022 season, Morrow earned second-team NJCAA All-American honors at linebacker and first team All-KJCCC after leading Indy in tackles with 66 and adding two sacks, an interception, and nine tackles for loss as he ranked second in the KJCCC in solo tackles (49) and tackles per game (8.3). After his time at Indy, he transferred to NCAA DI Jacksonville State for the 2023 season before moving on to the University of Nebraska at Kearney. 

"I want to make a positive impact by helping develop young men on and off the field. My goal is to build a defensive line that plays with toughness, discipline, and relentless effort while creating an environment where players are challenged to reach their full potential. I want to contribute to a winning culture built on accountability, hard work, and pride in representing Dodge City Community College," said Morrow. 

Murphy makes his way to Dodge City with several years of coaching experience under his belt, most recently as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Dooly County High School in Georgia. Since 2015, Murphy has primarily worked in the high school coaching realm, as he spent time as a defensive line coach at Hewitt-Trussville High School and Thompson High School, both in Alabama, and head coach at Randolph-Clay High School in Georgia for two seasons. He also spent from April 2023 to early 2024 as the defensive coordinator for the América Locomotiva in Brazil in between high school coaching. While he started his coaching career at Fellowship Christian School in Georgia as an assistant coach, he jumped into college coaching before his stretch at the high school level, coaching at Arkansas State University as a tight ends analyst/assistant on-campus recruiting coordinator, Auburn University as assistant director of player development/defensive quality control, and Virginia Union University as offensive line coach/recruiting coordinator. He was part of the coaching staff at Auburn during the 2013 SEC Championship and BCS Championship berth and on staff at Arkansas State during the 2012 Sun Belt Championship.  

Prior to starting his coaching career, the Georgia native played at the NCAA Division I level playing tight end and defensive end at the University of Arkansas from 2002 to 2006 under Houston Nutt. During his time at Arkansas, he was part of teams that competed in three bowl games. After his collegiate playing career, he signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. 

"My goal is to help build a championship culture by developing disciplined, accountable young men who excel on and off the field. I believe success starts with relationships, consistency, and servant leadership. My relationship with Jesus Christ is the foundation of how I lead, serve, and invest in others, and I hope every player who comes through our program leaves not only as a better football player, but as a better man," said Murphy.

The Conqs are set to open the 2026 season on the gridiron with a non-conference showdown against New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico on Thursday, August 20^th with a 7:00 pm CT kickoff (8:00pm MT).
