Wes Murphy enters his first season on the coaching staff for Dodge City football, serving as an assistant coach working on the offensive side of the ball with runningbacks and tight ends. He joined the staff in July of 2026.
Murphy made his way to Dodge City after jumping into the coaching world over 14 years ago; most recently as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Dooly County High School in Georgia. Since 2015, Murphy has primarily worked in the high school coaching realm in the recent part of his coaching career, working as a defensive line coach at Hewitt-Trussville High School and Thompson High School, both in Alabama, and was head coach at Randolph-Clay High School in Georgia for two seasons. He did spend from April 2023 to early 2024 as the defensive coordinator for the América Locomotiva in Brazil in between high school coaching.
While he started his coaching career at Fellowship Christian School in Georgia as an assistant coach, he jumped into college coaching before his stretch at the high school level, coaching at Arkansas State University as a tight ends analyst/assistant on-campus recruiting coordinator, Auburn University as assistant director of player development/defensive quality control, and Virginia Union University as offensive line coach/recruiting coordinator. He was part of the coaching staff at Auburn during the 2013 SEC Championship and BCS Championship berth, while also being on staff at Arkansas State during the 2012 Sun Belt Championship.
Prior to starting his coaching career, the Georgia native played at the NCAA Division I level playing tight end/defensive end at the University of Arkansas from 2002 to 2006 playing under Houston Nutt. During his time at Arkansas, he was part of three bowl games (2007 – Capital One Bowl, 2003 – Independence Bowl, and 2002 – Music City Bowl). After his collegiate playing career, he signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Murphy earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Arkansas.
