The spring season continued to roll on for the Dodge City rodeo as they competed in their second to last rodeo of the year in Central Region competition competing at the Fort Hays State University Rodeo in Hays, Kansas.
The Conquistadors had one of their best overall performances as a team all year, with several athletes earning spots in the short round.
The Conq men's team finished ninth overall as a team and were led by the performance of
Bryce Jackson, who placed fifth overall in steer wrestling. Jackson went 5.0 in the short round for the second fastest time and went 5.5 in the long round for the ninth fastest time, averaging out to fifth place overall.
In the tie-down roping event, De'odrick Fitzgerald posted a 10.9 in the long round to earn a spot in the short round and finished tenth overall.
The duo of
Cody Vance and
Keelin Faulkner had a strong long round in the team roping event, posting a time of 10.4 to make the short round in the event. Faulkner also tied for tenth overall in the breakaway roping after posting a 2.4 in the long round of the competition.
The Conqs have just one more rodeo this spring as they will compete at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo in Guymon, Oklahoma, on April 23rd-25th. The Conq men rank 14th overall and women 15th overall in the Central Region standings, while
Conner Nelson ranks fourth in bull riding in the region, and Fitzgerald ranks 15th in tie-down roping.
