The baseball season opened on Sunday for the Dodge City Conquistadors as they traveled down to Texas and took on Dallas College North Lake in a doubleheader. The Conqs split the twinbill, falling 4-3 in game one but responding with a 9-6 victory in game two. 
 
Ben Longoria and Sawyer Brinkman earned KJCCC West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for their performances on the day. 
 
Longoria was behind home plate for both games of the doubleheader and had a strong impact at the plate. The sophomore posted a 2-4 game in game one and then followed that up with a 1-3 performance in game two with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. 
 
Brinkman came in relief in game two, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless action to help the Conqs settle in, and only gave up two hits and a hit batter, ultimately earning the win on the hill for the Conqs. 
 
The Conqs will take on Texas Lutheran University JV on Wednesday in a scrimmage before wrapping up their Texas road trip over the weekend against Coastal Bend for a four-game series.
