Avery McCloskey & Karli George Sweep KJCCC DI Softball Player & Pitcher Honors

Dodge City softball picked up a pair of road wins last week over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, and the performances of Avery McCloskey and Karli George gave the Conquistadors a sweep of the KJCCC Division I Player and Pitcher of the week honors in softball. 

McCloskey packed a powerful punch at the plate for the Conqs in the doubleheader sweep, earning KJCCC DI Player of the week, while George picked up her second KJCCC DI Pitcher of the week honors this season after another strong outing in the circle. 

In the twinbill in Enid, McCloskey hit .571, starting with a 2-4 outing in game one with a double, one run scored, a home run, a walk, and four RBI. She followed that up by going 2-3 with two runs scored, a double, a home run, and two RBI in game two while also tossing all seven innings, recording six strikeouts. In nine games this season, McCloskey is hitting .458 with 11 hits, 12 RBI, eight doubles, two home runs, and five runs scored. She leads the KJCCC in doubles and is second in total extra-base hits with 10. 

Game one saw George in the circle as she picked up her third win, pitching a six-inning no-hitter this season. She surrendered three runs on no hits, five walks, and a hit batter in six innings, striking out four. On the season, in five appearances in the circle, she has thrown 26.2 innings with a 3.68 ERA as opponents are hitting just .225 against her, while she has 18 strikeouts. 

Up next, the Conqs are set to take on Otero in a four-game set starting on Thursday, February 26th, at home with a doubleheader slated for a 1:00 pm start time. The Conqs will then travel to La Junta, Colorado, for a twinbill with Otero on Sunday, March 1st, starting at 2:00 pm (1:00 pm MT).
