Derrick Rivers Named KJCCC DI "Player of the Week" For Second Time This Season

Dodge City men's basketball continued its strong play, moving to 8-3 on the season and 4-1 in the KJCCC after picking up wins over Colby and #10 Coffeyville. 
 
The play of sophomore, Derrick Rivers, continues to spearhead the Conquistadors' success and, for the second time this season, has been named KJCCC Division I "Player of the Week." 
 
Rivers had another strong week for the Conqs as he has been a scoring machine this season, averaging 24 points per game. He started the week with 24 points on 7-15 shooting while adding four rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the win over Colby. Rivers followed that up with his fourth 30+ point performance of the season, tallying 32 points on 10-19 shooting and going 9-9 from the free throw line while adding three assists and two steals in a road win over #10 Coffeyville. 
 
The St. Louis, Missouri native is averaging 24 points per game on 40.9% shooting and is shooting 86.4% from the free-throw line. He fills out his stat line with 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.3 steals per game on the season. He leads the KJCCC in scoring at 24 points per game and 264 total points, ranking fifth and fourth in the NJCAA, respectively, in those categories. He has also made the most free throws in the NJCAA at 89. 
 
Rivers and the Conqs have two more games before the holiday break as they will continue the season on Wednesday, December 10th at 7:30 pm against Hutchinson and then travel to Pratt on Saturday, December 13th.
