Dodge City men's basketball has won four in a row and is off to an 8-3 start this season with three wins over Top 10 ranked teams (at time of playing).
The Conquistadors' strong start has earned them recognition on the national level as they jump into the NJCAA Division I rankings for the first time this season coming at #21.
The ranking marks the first time in the polls for the Conqs since February 27th, 2023, in first season under Head Coach
Brad Witherspoon. Four other KJCCC schools are featured in the Top 25 alongside the Conqs - #16 Cowley, #18 Butler, #20 Barton, and #22 Coffeyville.
Offensively, the Conqs are averaging 82.8 points per game on 42.7% shooting this season, spreading the wall around with three players averaging double figures, including
Derrick Rivers, who leads the KJCCC in scoring (24 ppg), while seven players average five or more points per game. The Conqs have taken advantage of the free throw line on the season, averaging 21.4 made free throws per game and 29.4 attempts per game, ranking sixth and seventh in the NJCAA.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Conqs are giving up 83.6 points per game on 40.9% shooting, but have protected the rim solidly, averaging six blocks per game, which ranked fourth in the NJCAA and leads the KJCCC.
Two games remain before the holiday break for the Conqs as they will host Hutchinson on Wednesday, December 10th at 7:30 pm and then take on Pratt on Saturday, December 13th at 4:00 pm on the road.
