Dodge City men's basketball wrapped up non-conference play last week, moving to 4-2 on the season, and sophomore
Derrick Rivers continued his hot start to the season, putting up two more big individual performances.
Last week's performances have earned Rivers KJCCC Division I "Player of the Week" honors. The Conqs started the week with an 84-82 win over #2 South Plains, and Rivers poured in 32 points to pace the Conqs. He was 8-19 from the floor and 15-18 from the free-throw line, adding eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The St. Louis, Missouri native followed that up with 22 points, four rebounds, and five assists against Frank Phillips on the road, as he was 10-12 from the free throw line.
Rivers leads the KJCCC in scoring, headed into conference play as he's averaging 24.3 points per game and ranks sixth in the NJCAA in scoring. His 146 points this season are the tenth most in the NJCAA. He also ranks fifth in the NJCAA in made free throws as he is 46-55 on the season, while leading the KJCCC.
Coming off an honorable mention All-KJCCC season as a freshman, Rivers is off to a strong start to his sophomore year for the Conqs and looks to continue to build as the team looks to challenge for a top spot in the KJCCC.
Conference play opens for the Conqs with a tough slate to start as they take on #17 Barton on the road on Wednesday, November 19th, at 7:30pm and then host #10 Cowley on Saturday, November 22nd, at 3:00pm.
