Volleyball Gets Back Into Win Column With Road Win Over Hutchinson

September 24, 2024

Box Score Back in the win column that is where Dodge City volleyball found themselves on Monday night as they took on Hutchinson on the road in KJCCC action and earned a four-set win.

The Conquistadors after dropping the first set would win the next three sets to claim the match 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18) moving the Conqs to 13-9 on the season and 4-1 in KJCCC action. The win gives the Conqs back-to-back wins over the Blue Dragons in the series going back to last year's region playoffs; the first win streak vs Hutchinson since 2021.

After starting the night tight and back-and-forth in the first set Hutchinson would put together a run to go up seven at 16-9. The Conqs would try and push back but the deficit would prove too much as Hutchinson used it to push themselves to a 25-17 first-set win. Set two was tight with both teams holding a lead and the set being tied up several times. A late 4-0 run by the Conqs that included a pair of aces by Hayden Pinard gave them a 21-18 advantage. Hutchinson countered with a 3-0 run to make it a 21-20 matchup but the Conqs responded to secure a 25-22 second set.

The third set would be a see-saw affair just like the second until the Conqs again strung a late run together to push to a 21-18 advantage behind a 4-0 run and then would end the set on a 4-0 run to take it 25-20 as a block secured the set. Set four would again see a back-and-forth start until the Conqs put together a mid-set run and would establish control going up 16-11 and would use that cushion to go on to take the fourth set 25-18 and win the match in four sets.

The Conqs had a huge night from Pinard who was great finishing with 41 assists while adding five kills, six aces, and eight digs. Azra Arslanoglu and Tess De Zanet each tallied 14 kills on the night as Azra added nine digs and two aces, while Tess chipped in eight digs and three assists. Amariah White tallied nine kills, while Leisey Keli'i registered 17 digs, two aces, and three assists in the win.

Up next, the Conqs are back in action quickly traveling to Colby on Wednesday, September 25th at 6:30 pm to take on the #6 Trojans of Colby.
