Women's Soccer Nets Goal in 87th Minute to Finish With Tie Against Coffeyville

October 27, 2024

Box Score The Dodge City women's soccer team has seen several of this season's games come down to the final minutes of games and the regular season finale was no different as the Conquistadors netted a goal in the 87th minute to finish with a 1-1 tie against Coffeyville on the road.

The tie moves the Conqs to 4-9-4 on the season and 4-8-4 in KJCCC action as the Conqs finish sixth in the KJCCC.

Both teams would generate some opportunities in the contest but neither team could break through in the first half as the contest was a scoreless bout at halftime. It was not until the 68th minute when Coffeyville fired off a shot from 35 yards out that would arch into the goal to give the Red Ravens the lead at home. While the Conqs would get a few more looks the clock was ticking away and it wasn't until the final minutes of the contest when the Conqs finally got on the board. In the 87th minute, the Conqs earned a free kick, and from 38-yards away Mariam El Mir blasted a kick toward the goal that the Red Raven goalkeeper got a hand on but not enough to stop the shot as the Conqs tied the match at 1-1 and left Coffeyville with the tie.

The Conqs would outshoot Coffeyville just 15-12 in the matchup, while captain, Meike Patzold stepped up and played a big role for the Conqs starting in goal and recording five saves.

Next up the Conqs prepare for the postseason as they will take on Hutchinson in the opening round of the Plains District playoffs on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 pm.
