Landon Steele Named KBCA Two-Year College Coach of the Year

April 15, 2023

The 2022-23 women's basketball season will be one remember for all time at Dodge City as the Conquistadors put together a historic with several record-breaking performances, accomplishing feats that have not been done in a long time and some ever in school history.

Head Coach, Landon Steele guided the Conqs to that success in just his second season at the helm and has earned the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coach of the Year honors.

The Conqs capped the 2022-23 season with a 29-4 record establishing a school record for wins in a single season and posted a 23-1 KJCCC record to win the KJCCC title for the first time since 1987-88 and only the third time in school history. The 23 conference wins also mark a school record in a single season. The team would earn a berth into the NJCAA Division I National Tournament for the first time in school history.

Steele earned KJCCC DI Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Conqs to their stellar season, while four of his players picked up All-Conference honors.

The Kansas native has a 48-17 record in his two seasons leading the Conqs which gives him the fifth most wins as a head coach in school history while he also currently owns the best winning percentage in school history. He has totaled 148 career wins in his collegiate coaching career.

The Conqs and Coach Steele will look to reload the roster for year three leading the Conqs as a majority of the roster from this past season will be moving on to continue their basketball careers at four-year schools.
