Box Score Dodge City men's basketball wrapped up their first road trip of the season playing another top-notch opponent taking on #3 Odessa to finish the Midland Classic in Texas. The Conquistadors kept the contest close in the first half against the Wranglers but saw the second half slip away from them falling 97-70.
The Conqs had a solid start leading 7-2 after nearly the first two minutes of action leading to a Wranglers timeout and the Conqs would hold a lead for a good portion of the first half. Leading most of the time until under 10 minutes in the first half the Conqs would see Odessa mount a run with 5:31 left in the first half leading to the Conqs trailing 45-35 at halftime. In the second half, the lead ballooned out further for Odessa as the Conqs shooting woes to open the season would hurt the Conqs and hinder them from hanging in the contest falling 97-70.
The Conqs shot just 33% in the loss but did go 24-33 from the free throw line and had 12 assists on 20 made field goals.
Chevalier "Ice" Emery paced the Conqs with 20 points on 7-13 shooting including six three-pointers, while Gavin Shannon chipped in 16 points with seven rebounds going 8-12 from the charity stripe. Hunter Duncan tallied eight points and five rebounds, while Jamari Gamble and Tyler Williams each had seven points.
Up next is a trip to Colorado for the Conqs to continue the season and the non-conference slate as they will compete in the Trinidad State Classic on November 10th and 11th against Otero and Trinidad State, respectively.
