Box Score Dodge City men's basketball wrapped up the non-conference slate with a road tilt against McCook and picked up a 79-75 win.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 2-4 on the season as the Conqs now turn their attention to KJCCC play which will commence on Saturday, November 18th.Â
The Conqs took control early working to an 11-6 lead over nearly the first five minutes of action and would push that lead to nine at 19-10 with 11:45 remaining in the first half. That nine-point lead would be the largest margin of the first half, but it would not hold up as the Conqs saw the Indians of McCook tie the contest in the final seconds of the first half but a Gavin Shannon three-pointer just before halftime gave the Conqs a 40-37 lead at the half. The three-point ball helped the Conqs extend the lead in the second half all the way to a 10-point advantage at 63-53 with 9:09 left. McCook pushed back outscoring the Conqs 18-10 over the next six and half minutes to give the Indians a 73-71 lead. Conqs quickly grabbed the lead back on a Chevalier "Ice" Emery three-pointer and then in the final minute of the contest Hunter Duncan helped the Conqs secure the win with a layup and some free throws as the Conqs won 79-75.Â
Twelve three-pointers led the Conqs offense as they shot 40.6% in the contest, while McCook shot 46.3% but turned the ball over 25 times to the Conqs 15 turnovers in the game.Â
Shannon paced the Conqs with 25 points on 9-16 shooting adding four rebounds, while Avnoor Bhullar chipped in 16 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Duncan added 13 points and was was 5-10 from the field and added three rebounds and three assists. Jamari Gamble added 10 points on 4-7 shooting in the win.Â
Conqs open conference play on Saturday, November 18th when they host Hutchinson at 3:00 pm in Dodge City.Â
