Conqs Fall to Hutchinson at Home

The Conquistador Women's Soccer team struggled to get any momentum going offensively and fell to Jayhawk West leading Hutchinson Community College by a 3-0 score at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.

In the first half the Conqs were fighting a strong wind in their face and struggled to be able to push the ball forward. Hutchinson was able to take advantage of that wind and score three goals in the opening 45 minutes of the match. A pair of goal came in a short amount of time for the Dragons as they scored in the 27th minute and then again just a minute and six seconds later to take the 2-0 lead. The Conqs were able to solidify their defense after that point, but Hutch got another goal in with just 1:43 remaining in the half.

In the second half the Conqs had that wind at their back, but with a lead already in hand the Blue Dragons played more defensively often sending just a single player forward on the attack. Dodge City was unable to capitalize on having the wind as the Hutchinson defense shut them out again in the second half.

The loss drops the Conqs to 1-3 in conference play, but they have already faced the top three teams in the conference standings. They will return to action on Saturday as they host Hesston College at noon at Memorial Stadium.
