Box Score Despite a slow start, Dodge City defeated Colby Community College 67-52 on Thursday night. In the first 4 minutes of the game, it was a real tough go of it offensively for both sides. At the 5:49 mark of the 1
st quarter there had just been one point scored in the entire game. Colby had a 1-0 lead. It was at that point that
Alec Fitts for the Conqs was able to convert on a traditional three-point play. This sparked Dodge City and turned into a 9-0 run. It was the 2:45 mark before the Trojans were finally able to get a bucket and end the run, making it 9-3. DC3 was able to end the quarter strong and go into the 2
nd quarter with a 16-5 lead.
The 2
nd quarter started similar to the first, with neither team scoring the first 3:08 of play.
Makaela Ewing was able to hit a jumper just above the elbow to knock the lid off the basket. From there Dodge City closed the 2
nd quarter by outscoring Colby 19-10. This allowed the Conquistadors to go into halftime with a 35-15 lead.
The first 5 minutes of the second half was back and forth, as it was just a 5-4 margin in favor of Dodge City. Starting at just in front of the 4-minute mark DC3 went on a 6-0 run to expand their lead to what would be the biggest of the game at 44-21. The Trojans were able to bring the margin down to 18 to close the third quarter after outscoring the Conqs 9-4 following the Dodge City run.
The fourth quarter started well for Colby Community College. They were able to get out to a 5-0 run early to shrink the deficit down to 13. It was at that point the Trojans Head Coach Antwain Scales for Colby was hit with a technical foul.
Addison Rowley stepped up to the free throw line and hit both shots. This stalled out any momentum that Colby had and the Conq defense did not allow the Trojans to get much closer the rest of the game.
Fredrionna Adams scored 12 points on 6 of 9 shooting, and added 5 assists.
Ashia Pool scored 12 points as well, on 5 of 6 shooting.
Haleigh Hill added 11 rebounds.
