Box Score (Dodge City, Kansas) – Dodge City Community College has now lost 3 straight. They struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball in the 59-31 defeat to Hutchinson.
The first quarter started immediately with Hutchinson getting out to a 7-0 run. In a very sloppy first quarter and the game overall, it is not good to get down early and give the visiting team all of the momentum. At 8-4, Hutchinson went on another 7-0 run. At this point, the Conqs were already down 15-4 leading to a timeout by Coach Loll of the Conquistadors. Out of the timeout, there were a couple of minutes of scoreless play and more turnovers. The Blue Dragons finally hit a free throw just over 3 minutes later to break the scoreless drought for both teams. The Conqs hit a layup just before the buzzer to end the first quarter down 16-6.
The second quarter started with Hutchinson scoring the first 4 points before Dodge City was able to get a basket and make it 22-9. The Conqs would score just 2 points the remainder of the first half. Defensively they did play well, allowing Hutchinson to score just 3 in the same timeframe. Going into halftime Hutchinson had a 25-11 lead and there were 25 combined turnovers in the half.
The Blue Dragons started the 2nd half the same way they started the 1st, by immediately getting out to a 7-0 run. This opened up a 21-point lead at 32-11. The Conqs were finally able to answer with a 5-0 run starting with Addison Rawley hitting their first 3 pointer of the game. The last couple of minutes of the third quarter would go back and forth, as they went into the fourth with Hutchinson leading 38-18.
Just like the other three quarters, the fourth started slowly offensively as Dodge City was able to score just one point in the first 2 minutes. During that time, Hutchinson was able to score 4 points to outscore them. Dodge City would go on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 42-25. Hutchinson would close the game out by outscoring DC3 9-0. The fourth quarter was by far the best offensively for Dodge City as they were able to score 13 points and only had 18 the entire rest of the game. At that point, it was too late, however as they fell 59-31.
For the game Dodge City shot 23.3% from the field, 7.1% from three, and 71.4% from the free throw line. As a team, Dodge City turned the ball over 23 times.
The leading scorer for DC3 was Ashia Pool who scored 8 points.
