Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. – After not allowing a single shot in the first half, the Conquistadors defeated the Northwest Tech Mavericks on Wednesday by a score of 3-2.
With Dodge City holding most of the possession in the first half, the Conquistadors were able to take nine shots in the first half, with six being on goal, while the Mavericks were not able to get a single shot off.
Liliana Vazquez broke the 0-0 tie with just over 11 minutes left in the first half as Marcela Martinez found her on a breakaway as she poked it past the keeper to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead.
Just 10 minutes after the second half started, the Mavericks were playing with the wind and were able to connect on a set piece from just outside the right side of the box to tie the game at one.
Northwest Tech was able to take the lead a few minutes later on a free kick from about 30 yards out to make it 2-1.
Ruby Grajales was then able to find
Bryanna Chavez coming across the keepers face for a head to tie the game again, 2-2.
Just two minutes later, Marcela Martinez broke free behind the defense, as the keeper didn't have a chance to give Dodge City a 3-2 lead.
Dodge City women's soccer is now 3-3-1 on the year and will be in action again on Sept. 15, in Great Bend, Kan., where they will take on the Barton Cougars at 2 p.m.
