Conqs Come From Behind For Third Straight Win

Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – Despite a slow start and trailing for most of the first half, the Conquistadors found their stride in the second half, coming form behind to defeat Neosho, 63-61 for their third consecutive win.
 
With her third consecutive game in double figures, Allie Baker continued her quality play, scoring a career high 16 points, while also collecting seven rebounds. Addison Rowley and Makaela Ewing were the only other Conquistadors in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.
 
The Conquistadors got off to a very slow start, only scoring one point until Ewing knocked down the Conqs first field goal with 4:30 left in the first quarter.
 
The Conqs were able to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Panthers quickly pushed the lead back to 13-7. Dodge City was able to score the final four points of the quarter, making the score 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Early in the second quarter, the Conqs tied the game at 13. After Neosho took the lead right back, Addison Rowley knocked down a three-pointer off the inbounds pass to give Dodge City their first lead of the game, 17-16.
 
The Panthers then regained the lead and extended their lead to 25-19, but the Conqs finished the quarter on a 5-3 run to cut the lead to 28-24 before the buzzer.
 
Dodge City continued the comeback in the third quarter, tying the game at 30 with 6:36 left in the quarter. After grabbing another quick lead, the Panthers were able to take a 42-40 lead into the final quarter.
 
After two free throws by Ewing gave Dodge City another lead, a three-point play by Allie Baker extended the lead to 49-44 with just over six minutes to play.
 
The Conquistadors got hot late, extending their lead to 10 with about two minutes to play.
 
The Panthers would not go away easily, hitting two three-pointers late to cut the lead to two, but the Conqs were able to hold the lead as Rowley and Baker knocked down five of their final six free throws.
 
A late three by the Panthers cut the lead to 63-61, but it was too-little, too-late as the Conqs held on to win.
 
The Conqs are now 8-12 overall and 5-12 in conference play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Colby Community College at 5:30 p.m. Colby was able to win the first matchup, 56-54.
