Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – Behind a strong offensive performance from
Dayton McGroarty, the Conquistadors were able to complete the season sweep of Neosho County, defeating the Panthers on Saturday afternoon, 85-80.
McGroarty led the Conquistadors with 17 points, going 4-for-5 from three.
Tajae Anderson followed closely behind with 16 while teammates
Marquis McCray,
Kevin Howard,
Ishawn Murphy and
Justice Dixon all added double figures with 14, 13, 11 and 11 respectively.
Howard was also able to grab 10 rebounds for just his second double-double of the year.
Early in the game, both teams were trading baskets, but the Panthers were eventually able to grab a 22-19 lead before the media timeout.
Coming out of the timeout, Neosho extended their lead to 29-21, but the Conqs came back to tie the game at 33, highlighted by back-to-back threes from
Dayton McGroarty.
After getting a stop on the defensive end with the game tied, McGraorty was able to get free underneath for a ferocious dunk to give the Conqs a 35-33 lead. Neosho was then able to finish the half on a 4-0 run and take a 37-35 lead into halftime.
To start the second half, The Conqs were able to regain the lead and McGroarty stayed hot as he hit two more three's early to extend the Conq lead to 45-40.
With the game tied at 56, the Conqs then went on a 7-0 run to quickly push their lead back to 63-56. The Panthers would not go away, hitting a big three with 4:14 to play to cut the lead to 66-61.
With just over three minutes to play, the Panthers were able to cut the lead to three, but a big three by
Tajae Anderson quickly pushed the lead back to six.
The Panthers were able to get it to three one more time, but the Conqs were able to make eight of their final 10 free throws in the last minute to hold on and complete the season sweep of Neosho, 85-80.
The Conqs are now 7-14 overall and 5-12 in conference play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Colby Community College at 7:30 p.m. Colby was able to win the first matchup, 81-65.
