Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Only leading for a total of 2:10, the Conquistador women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Coffeyville Community College by a score of 42-41 on Wednesday night.
Coming off a 14-point performance at Pratt on Saturday,
Allie Baker continued to play well on Wednesday as she dropped a game-high 13 points while also pulling down five rebounds.
Alec Fitts was the only other Conquistador in double-figures with 11, while
Kaylee Dale grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
After shooting 22.2 percent in the first half, the Conquistadors came out hot in the second half and shot 40.9 percent from the field.
The first quarter was low scoring as both teams had trouble finding the bottom of the net. The Red Ravens were able to score six points in the paint in the first ten minutes and take a 10-5 lead into the second quarter.
To begin the second quarter, Dodge City still struggled to score, while Coffeyville pushed their lead to 15-5 with seven minutes left in the half. Roles were switched for the next four minutes as the Conqs went on an 8-0 run and cut the lead to two with 3:16 left in the second quarter. The Red Ravens were able to get the lead back to five before the end of the half, heading into the locker room with Coffeyville leading, 20-15.
In the third quarter the Conquistadors were able to keep the game close for the first five minutes then were able to grab their first lead of the game as Baker found
Makaela Ewing for a mid-range jumper, 29-27. The Conquistadors were unable to hold onto the lead for the rest of the quarter with the Red Ravens hitting a free throw with 40 seconds left to take a 32-30 lead into the final quarter.
A 5-0 run to start the fourth quarter by the Red Ravens gave Coffeyville a seven point lead and looked to move all momentum to the Red Ravens. Dodge City would not go away, cutting the lead to two as Fitts knocked down two free throws with 2:19 left. Fitts went to the free throw line again with 45 seconds left to tie the game.
With the score tied at 41,
Addison Rowley was fouled with 10 seconds left on the clock. After missing the first free throw, Rowley calmed her nerves and knocked down the second free throw to give Dodge City a 42-41 lead. Coffeyville then called a timeout and advanced the ball to mid-court. After a missed shot in the lane, Fitts pulled down the rebound and gave Dodge City the win, 42-41.
The Conqs are now 7-12 on the year and move to 4-12 in conference play. They will be in action again on Saturday as they travel to Neosho Community College at 2 p.m.
