Box Score HUTCHINSON, Kan. – After trailing by just 10 at halftime, the Conquistadors were outscored 22-4 in the third quarter as they fell to the Blue Dragons, 74-47 on Saturday evening.
Both
Allie Baker and
Makaela Ewing led the Conquistadors in scoring with 10 points each, while
Ashley Nelson and
Addison Rowley both added eight and seven respectively.
The Blue Dragons started out the game hot, scoring the first seven points of the game and forcing head coach
Zach Loll to take his first timeout of the game, just two minutes into the game.
Coming out of the timeout,
Addison Rowley knocked down a three and Ewing were able to hit a jumper to cut the lead to 7-5 with 6:30 to play in the first quarter. After one more basket, Hutchinson was able to finish the half on an 9-2 run to make the score 18-9 heading into quarter number two.
To start the second quarter, Hutchinson continued to add to their lead, but
Kaylee Dale found a rhythm and knocked down back-to-back baskets and Ewing hit a tough shot on the baseline to cut the lead back to single digits, 30-21.
With just under two minutes to play in the half, Dale found
Rylee Burris at the three-point line, but Burris turned down the three and found Ewing underneath for a basket to cut the lead to five.
Hutchinson responded to the Dodge City run and pushed their lead back to 10 just before the end of the half.
The Blue Dragons came out of the locker room on a mission, extending their lead to 23 points with 3:30 to play in the third quarter. For the rest of the quarter, the Blue Dragons continued to add to their lead, heading into the final quarter with a 60-31 lead.
The Conquistadors picked up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Dragons were able to hold their lead and defeat the Conquistadors, 74-47.
Dodge City is now 5-11 overall on the year and moves to 2-11 in conference play. They will be in action at 5:30 on Wednesday as they host Cloud Community College. Cloud won the first meeting of the year, 79-51.
