In an up and down game throughout, DC3 would trail in the early stages of the first quarter before taking the lead midway through and keeping pace with Colby to take a 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans would then see their offense start to click in the second quarter as Dodge City would match Colby basket for basket for most of stanza, but would see the Trojans outscore DC3 19-15 in the quarter to take a 37-34 halftime lead. The Conquistadors would hit 14 of 38 shots in the first half after making a total of nine in their previous outing against Neosho County.
Trailing by a score of 45-37 midway through the third and the momentum starting to shift in favor of Colby,
Denis Ortiz would hit her first three of the game to cut the lead to five and put the Conqs right back in the swing of things. The trey would keep working its magic for Dodge City, as
Alexus Johnson would give the Conqs the lead on one of her four threes in the game to give DC3 a 49-48 lead in the final minutes of the third before Colby would score five of the last eight points to regain a 53-52 lead heading into the fourth.
Dodge City would quickly regain the lead on a
Taylor Brannen bucket with 8:10 left in the game and have
Dakota Hoffman come up big with an offensive board and putback to put DC3 up 60-55 forcing a Colby timeout. The lead would quickly dwindle back to a single point at 64-63 with three minutes to go as Colby would once again regain the lead leaving the Conqs needing to answer. Dodge City would do just that and take a 69-68 lead in the final minute and then see two big Johnson free throws put the lead at 71-68 with under 30 seconds to go and forcing Colby to use a timeout and set up a final play. The Trojans would get multiple chances at the final shot, but would not see a single one fall as DC3 would snap their 11-game losing streak to sweep the season series from the Trojans.
"It was a great job by the girls tonight, and it was an all-around team effort to get the win tonight" said head-coach

Dodge City would finish 28 of 66 from the floor (42.4%) and manage to down five of 13 treys (38.5%) compared to 28 of 89 for Colby (31.5%). DC3 would also manage to win the rebounding battle by a 54-50 margin and force the Trojans into 13 turnovers.
Johnson would lead all scorers with 35 points in the game on 12 of 24 shooting from the field to break out of recent shooting woes while Hoffman would record her first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Denis Ortiz had a career-high 12 points while
Sada Smith had eight points and eight rebounds.
