Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - In a game with 326 total penalty yards, the Hutchinson Blue Dragons were able to outlast Dodge City, winning the last game of the regular season by a score of 27-6.
The Dodge City offense came out very slow in the first half, collecting just 10 first downs with seven of those coming on penalties from Hutchinson.Â
Sophomore quarterback Caden Walters went 14-for-33 on the day, throwing for 186 yards. Tyler Minor led the way in the running game with 27 yards on eight carries while AJ Walker and Rodney Murphy ran for 22 yards and 20 yards respectively.Â
Hutchinson got things started early, scoring on a two-yard touchdown run by B.J. Emmons. After an extra point, the Blue Dragons took a 7-0 lead with 7:51 left to play in the first quarter.Â
Just before the half, the Conqs drove down the field but were forced to kick a 24-yard field goal with three seconds left. The kick was then blocked by the Blue Dragons and returned 86 yards for a touchdown to extend the Hutch lead to 13-0. After a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Blue Dragons the extra point was blocked to head into the locker room with the Conqs down 13-0.
Scoring came at a minimum in the second half as Hutchinson added to their lead with 2:57 left in the third quarter on a 20-yard run from Otis Williams.
Dodge City was able to get on the board with 7:47 left in the game as Walters ran around the left side and reached the end zone to make the 20-6 as the extra point was blocked.
Late in the game, Hutch pushed their lead to 27-6 with a 53-yard punt return by Marcus Edwards. The Conqs then were unable to score again, ending the game, losing, 27-6
Dodge City ends the season with an overall record of 27-6.
