Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College volleyball team was unable to take a set against No. 5 Seward County Community College, falling in three sets, by scores of 22-25, 19-25 and 13-25.
Rachel Slattery and Jaylen Pegues led the Conqs with a combined 13 kills on the day, while
Gabriella Valdez led with 13 assists. The Conqs also had three players that collected seven digs on the day.
Dodge City came out very strong in the first set, eventually taking a 10-6 lead in the set, forcing Seward to call their first timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Saints were able to cut the lead to one, but the Conqs then pushed the lead back to 16-13. After an attacking error by the Conqs, Seward was able to take their first lead of the set, 17-16. The Conqs were able to tie the game at 20, but were unable to grab the lead, falling in set one, 25-22.
Seward came out a lot stronger in set two, eventually extending their lead to 10, 18-8. Dodge City then called a timeout, but coming out of the timeout, the Conqs went on a 8-3 run to cut the lead to 21-17. After another timeout by Seward, got back on track and won set two, 25-19.
Set three was never in doubt, as Seward jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. Dodge City then called their second timeout as the Saints added to their lead to make it 15-8. The Conqs then scored just five points for the rest of the set, falling 25-13.
The Conqs are now 16-10 on the year and will bei in action again on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Butler Community College.
