Lady Saints Too Much To Handle For DC3 Women's Hoops

Box Score LIBERAL, Kan. – No. 4-nationally ranked and undefeated Seward County Community College was more than a handful for the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team, as the Conquistadors dropped a Wednesday night road contest to the Lady Saints by a final score of 102-43 at the Greenhouse in Liberal on January 11th.

DC3 is now is now 3-13 overall and 3-9 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while Lady Saints remain perfect at 16-0 and 12-0 in the KJCCC.

Seward would open the game by scoring the first six points of the game before the Conquistadors would fight their way back on a Jakyia Chambers hoop plus the foul to cut the lead to 12-8 midway through the first quarter. A 10-3 Seward County run would put a damper on the little momentum that Dodge City had built as the Lady Saints would lead 22-11 at the end of the first quarter. The second frame would appear to be much like the first as following a four quick points by DC3 to cut the lead to seven, Seward County would go on a 6-0 run to go back up by double digits. The Lady Saints would then hunker down on defense, allowing only eight Conquistador points the final seven minutes of the first half while taking a 51-23 lead into intermission.

A forgetful third quarter would see the Lady Saints start the second half on an 18-0 run before DC3 would finally get on the board and score four straight points. It would be about the only bright spot for the Conqs in the third as Seward County would outscore DC3 32-6. Dodge city would hold their own in the fourth, scoring 14 points and finally starting to see jumpers fall, but it would be too little too late.

For the third-straight game, the Conquistadors would shoot under 30 percent from the floor, finishing just 15-66 (22.7%) from the floor. The lone bright-spot for DC3 would be the charity stripe, as Dodge City would hit all seven free-throws in the second half and finish nine of 11 in the game (83.3%). Seward County would out-rebound DC3 54-36 and hold a commanding 31-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Chambers would lead Dodge City with nine points in the game and had three steals while Baily Shelor had eight points. Cardelia Allen had seven points and pulled in five rebounds while Taylor Nichols had seven total rebounds. The Lady Saints were led by 16 points from Mollie Mounsey.

Another top-10 opponent waits DC3 this weekend as the Conqs will play host to Hutchinson Community College at the Student Activities Center. With the potential for hazardous weather this weekend, an official announcement will be made tomorrow morning regarding when the game will be played. Goconqs.com will have full details on Thursday morning regarding the game date and time.
