Box Score CONCORDIA, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team's turnover issues in the first half dug the Conquistadors a hole it couldn't get out of during an 89-56 loss to Cloud County on Monday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
DC3 (17-13 overall, 7-12 KJCCC) committed 17 first-half turnovers, playing a huge part in why the Conquistadors trailed the Thunderbirds (21-9, 13-6) 42-19 at the half.
The Conquistadors with their reserves in the third quarter cut what was a 27-point lead down to 17 before Cloud County pulled away for the 33-point victory. It was DC3's ninth loss in its last 10 games.
Blair Johnson led the Conqs with 12 points while
Amber Espinosa added 11 points.
Rachel Slattery had nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks - giving her 82 blocks on the season and setting the DC3 single-season record.
DC3 struggled shooting as it finished 37.7 percent from the field (20-for-53), 21.4 percent from 3-point range (3-for-14) and 50 percent from the free-throw line (13-for-26).
Cloud had four players finish in double figures with Darby Price leading the way with 23 points off of the bench. Kaley Broeckelman had 18 points (including four 3-pointers), Erin Alexander had 11 points while Chelcie Kizart finished with 10.
The Conqs are the No. 9 seed in the Region VI Tournament and will travel to take on No. 8 Independence on Thursday. DC3 defeated Independence 73-72 on the road earlier this season, even without its leading scorer and rebounder Slattery (who was out due to illness).
