GAME NOTES: Conqs try to stay alive for top-8 seed for regionals

DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team tries to stay in the hunt for a top-eight seed and home game for the Region VI Tournament when the Conquistadors host last-place Colby 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dodge City Civic Center.

- The Conqs come into Wednesday's contest two games behind Independence for the eighth and final hosting spot for the first round of the Region VI Tournament after DC3 snapped its five-game losing streak by thumping Pratt 78-56 on Saturday in Dodge City.
- Antania Newton paced DC3 in the victory with 21 points while Rachel Slattery had 12 and Alexus Johnson finished with 10.
- Newton continues to move up the all-time DC3 lists in several categories. Her 67 3-pointers this season is third on the single-season list, her 3-point percentage of 45.0 is second for a single season in Conq history and her 112 career 3-pointers is third on the all-time DC3 list. Also, her 176 career assists are fourth on the all-time DC3 list. Newton's 712 career points is also one point away from reaching the DC3 all-time top-10.
- Slattery leads the Conqs in points per game (14.6 - 6th in the KJCCC), rebounds (12.9 - first in the KJCCC), blocks (3.0 - second in the KJCCC) and field goal percentage (63.7 - first in the KJCCC). Slattery is also marching up the list of several single-season DC3 records - rebounds (336 - second), blocks (77 - second, it's also third on the all-time list) and free throws made (104 - ninth).
- The Conqs' seven KJCCC wins is the most for the program since the 2006-07 season when it went 5-11. It's 17 wins is the second-most since the 2005-06 season when it won 20 games (the Conqs won 17 games in 2013-14).
- Coach Mark James (third season) is 46-44 at DC3 and 13-33 in KJCCC play.
