Zach Loll's debut was spoiled by a pesky Fort Scott for the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team in a 74-62 loss on a neutral court at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas on Friday, November 4th.
DC3 is now 0-1 on the year while the Greyhounds improved to 1-0.
The game would stay tight for most of the game as the Conquistadors trailed by a score of 21-18 after 10 minutes of play. DC3 would outscore the Greyhounds 15-13 in the second quarter to trail 34-33 at the half and trail 54-52 heading into the fourth and final quarter. Fort Scott would make a run towards the end of the game, outscoring Dodge City by a score of 20-10 in the final frame.
"We played well for 35 minutes, but unfortunately basketball is a 40 minute game" said head coach Loll in a post-game interview. "We have to take care of the small details and grow as a team to be able to overcome games like this."
DC3 shot 40.4 percent from the field (21-52) and hit six of 20 three point attempts (30%) with
Alexus Johnson hitting four of the six three's. DC3 would be guilty of 18 turnovers in the contest.
The Conquistadors were led in scoring by sophomore
Alexus Johnson with 20 total points to go along with three total rebounds while
Baily Shelor had 13 points and three assists.
Dasia Johnson dished out seven assists and had five rebounds to go along with eight points and three steals.
DC3 will close out the weekend tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they play host school Johnson County Community College.
