DC3 Women Give Coach Loll First Career Win at Dodge City

Head Coach Zach Loll earned his first win at DC3 tonight.
Box Score PRATT, Kan. - After digging themselves a 22-10 hole at the end of the first quarter, the Dodge City Community College flipped the script and outscored Pratt 66-49 the rest of the way to give head coach Zach Loll his first career win at Dodge City with a 76-71 come-from-behind victory at the Beaverdome on Wednesday, November 16th.

DC3 is now 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Beavers fall to 1-5 and 0-2 after losing their fourth consecutive game.

The first quarter would get off to a quick pace with the Conquistadors taking a 6-5 lead just three minutes into the game before the Beavers would go on a 17-4 run throughout the rest of the quarter. Dodge City would find themselves with multiple second-chance opportunities, but could not convert which would allow the Beavers to jump out to what would be their largest lead of the game. Battling back for the entire second quarter, DC3 would find themselves down 30-24 with 3:27 left in the first half when Pratt starter Channa Parvin would pick up her third foul. The Conqs would take advantage of the 5-4 guard being off the court, taking a 32-31 lead with 47 seconds left in the frame and leading by a score of 34-32 at the half.

With a key component of the halftime discussion being the ability to push the ball in transition, Dodge City would open up the third quarter with six straight points to push the lead to 40-32 and not let the Beavers get back within four points for the rest of the quarter. Towards the end of the quarter, Dodge city would open up a double-digit lead and lead 58-46 heading into the fourth. The lead would hover around 10 points for much of the fourth before Pratt would finally find their way back into the game and cut the lead to 73-65 with 2:46 left in the game. The Beavers would close within four at 75-71 in the final minute before DC3 would add a bucket to end the game at 76-71.

"We got the monkey off our back and it felt good to get the taste of victory tonight" said head coach Zach Loll in a post-game interview with Damon Post. "We have to get better defensively, but the last few days we have focused on applying pressure and it made a difference tonight." "We got good production from Kyra Fennell tonight, and she kept Pratt's best player from ending up with 20 rebounds which cannot be understated."

Dodge City would shoot only 31.7% from the field (27-77) but would connect on four treys. DC3 was outrebounded 50-49 in a tightly contested game on the glass, but would force 17 Beaver turnovers turning into 20 points. The charity stripe would be just that for the Conqs tonight, connecting on 18 of 21 attempts (85.7%).

DC3 was led by 21 points from Alexus Johnson while Fennell had 12 points and two offensive rebounds. Brittany Leonard would add 11 points off the bench and three defensive rebounds in 24 minutes of action while Cardelia Allen would be the other Conquistador in double figures with 10 points. Prat was led by a game-high 28 points from Megan Poole.

Dodge City will look to build off the momentum from tonight when they return home to take on Coffeyville at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Red Ravens earned a 55-51 win over Independence on Wednesday night.
