Box Score COLBY, Kan. — The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team used a dominant second quarter to pull away from Colby for a 74-37 victory Wednesday on the road.

The Conquistadors (16-5, 6-4) outscored the Trojans (4-19, 0-12) 23-4 in the second quarter to turn a six-point, first-quarter lead into a 39-14 advantage at the half.

"We had a pretty sluggish start offensively tonight, but our defense kept us where we needed to be until our offense could catch up," DC3 coach Mark James said.

Leading three Conquistadors in double figures was Rachel Slattery as the 6-foot freshman finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and a block.

Antania Newton had 14 points and three assists for DC3, including going 4-for-9 from 3-point range, while Alexus Johnson had 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Johnson was also 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.

"Rachel was phenomenal tonight," James said. "There was simply no answer for her. When she plays like that combined with how well we shot the ball from the outside, we're tough to handle."

Hanna Herrman and Amber Perryman led Colby with 10 points apiece.

DC3 shot the exact same from 3-point range (13-for-31) than it did from inside the arc (13-for-31) - good for 41.9 percent. The Conqs also dominated the glass, outrebounding Colby 51-36.

The Conqs are now 5-0 after losses this season.

DC3 travels to take on Seward 6 p.m. Saturday.
