Box Score ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — First-half struggles dug the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team a hole it couldn't get out of as the Conquistadors lost to Cowley 87-64 Saturday at W.S. Scott Auditorium.
DC3 (12-3, 2-2) trailed 35-13 after the first quarter and 58-26 at the half before outscoring Cowley (14-2, 5-0) 38-29 in the second half.
"Cowley just jumped all over us from the start and we never really recovered," DC3 coach
Mark James said. "They shot the ball extremely well in the first half. I was proud of our effort in the second half. We kept fighting and refused to roll over.
"The kids were still diving on the floor and I honestly believe we can build from stuff like that."
The Tigers shot 54.8 percent in the first half, including 9-for-20 from 3-point range (45 percent). On the other hand, the Conqs shot 36.4 percent in the first half and finished the game with 28 turnovers.
Alexus Johnson led DC3 with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds while
Ajhania Smith had nine points and
Talisha Presley finished with eight.
Devon Branch scored a game-high 16 points for Cowley while Madi Greenwood had 15 points and seven assists.
DC3 hosts Butler 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dodge City Civic Center.
