Box Score HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- A rough start on both ends of the floor led to an early deficit the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team never recovered from during a 90-48 loss to No. 8 Hutchinson on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The Conqs (14-4, 4-3) shot just 24 percent from the field (6-for-25) and turned it over 11 times in the first half while allowing the Blue Dragons (17-1, 7-1) to shoot 54.1 percent (20-for-37), including going 6-for-11 from 3-point range. Hutchinson turned it over just once in the opening 20 minutes to build a 50-19 lead at the break.Â
DC3 fell behind in the first quarter 27-6 after shooting 18.2 percent (2-for-11) while Hutchinson shot 61.1 percent (11-for-18).
Ajhania Smith led DC3 with 11 points, going 2-for-5 from 3-point range.
Alexus Johnson had eight points (also going 2-for-5 from beyond the arc) while
Dasia Johnson and
Antania Newton each added six points.
The Conqs finished the game shooting 25.5 percent from the field (13-for-51) and committed 19 turnovers. The Conqs were 7-for-28 (25 percent) from 3-point range.
Taylor Stahly led five Hutchinson players in double figures with 20 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. She was also 5-for-12 from 3-point range. Kyla Williams and Kirea Rogers each had 15 points, Inja Butina had 14 points, eight assists and three steals while Mandy Madden had 12 points.
The Blue Dragons shot 45.3 percent from the field and were slightly better from 3-point range at 45.5 percent (10-for-22). They also committed just six turnovers in the game.
The Conqs return home to play Barton 1 p.m. Saturday at the Dodge City Civic Center.
