Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- Dodge City Community College's
Dominique Arzaga was in the right place at the right time - right when her team needed it.
The sophomore from Dodge City punched in a shot that had ricocheted off the cross bar and gave the Conquistadors a 1-0 overtime victory over Allen Community College on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Arzaga's goal in the 97th minute was set up thanks to a strong defensive performance by DC3 (3-3 overall, 1-1 KJCCC), particularly from goalkeeper
Elyssia Lucio. The sophomore from Oceanside, California, had seven saves in the contest -- including five in the second half and one in overtime to keep the game scoreless. Aside from the saves, she also was able to jump on several loose balls in the penalty area to deny a hard-charging Red Devils attack.
Allen (5-4, 2-1) finished the contest with 11 shots with seven on goal while DC3 had seven shots with five on goal.
Arzaga led the Conqs with four shots (two on goal) while
Ariana Dawson and
Rachel VanBuskirk each had two shots (both with one on goal).
Allen's Rachel Nincehelser took seven shots with four on goal while Payton Huckabay had three shots (one on goal). Goalkeeper Emilee Mitchell finished with four saves.
The DC3 women host Cowley 6 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Stadium (a make-up game from earlier in the season).
