Conqs go cold from 3-point range, fall to Coffeyville on the road

DC3's Blair Johnson
Box Score COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team had been hot the previous two games from 3-point range - going 29-for-59 in a pair of victories, including the Conquistadors' KJCCC opener on the road Wednesday at Neosho.

However, DC3 went just 4-for-19 from 3-point range, committed 24 turnovers and was held to a season low in scoring during a 76-58 loss on the road at Coffeyville.

The Conqs (10-2 overall, 1-1 KJCCC) fell behind 22-14 after the first quarter and never recovered as they were outscored in each quarter during its 18-point loss.

Antania Newton paced DC3 with 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting (including going 3-for-5 from 3-point range) and Alexus Johnson was the only other player to reach double figures with 11 points and five rebounds. Rachel Slattery finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

Desiree Nelson led Coffeyville with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Conqs play a non-KJCCC game at Lamar Community College in Colorado on Tuesday before returning to KJCCC play at home 6 p.m. Thursday against Allen.
