Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- While the Dodge City Community College women's soccer team still has some work to do to secure a home contest in the KJCCC Tournament, the Conquistadors went out with a bang in their final regular-season home match of the year.
DC3 jumped out to a 5-0 first-half lead and never looked back as the Conqs defeated Northwest Kansas Tech 8-1 Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
DC3 (8-5 overall) outshot the Mavericks (2-7) 29-6 and controlled the majority of the match.
"The girls played great," DC3 coach
Tim Romanello said. "They came out strong, we were able to get the ball out forward with relative ease and we attacked the goal. Today we were also able to finish, which was fantastic."
The play of the match came with DC3 well up on Northwest Kansas Tech in the second half as it appeared the Mavericks were going to score on a ball floated over approaching goalkeeper
Elyssia Lucio.
However, DC3 defender
Amanda Allred sprinted to just feet from the goal line, dove and with her head knocked a certain goal out of bounds.
As for the scoring, sophomore
Kristina Trinceri led the way with three goals and an assist,
Daniela Torannini had two goals,
Cynthia Rodela,
Rachel VanBuskirk and
Dominique Arzaga each had one goal,
Jaqueline Gonzalez had two assists and
Beth Ulrich added an assist as well for DC3.
Lucio finished with a pair of saves for the Conqs.
DC3 returns to conference play Friday when it hits the road to take on Kansas City Kansas Community College. With three KJCCC matches left, the Conqs are 5-3 - one game ahead of Barton and Cowley for fourth place. The top four teams host in the opening round of the KJCCC Tournament.
