Box Score COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa: Iowa Western owned the matchup with Dodge City from the first quarter after garnering a 28-7 lead over the Conqs. The home team would keep edging away and scoring to keep DC3 down, eventually leading to a 57-14 win over the Conqs.
IWCC struck in the first 26 seconds of play with a 67-yard touchdown run over Dodge. The Conqs answered with nine minutes left in the first quarter on an eight-yard run by
Mark Thompson and evened things up with the extra point kick by
Dillon Burkhard.
With the score 7-7, the Reivers would nab back-to-back touchdowns on the next two possessions and another with a minute left in the first quarter to go into the second with a 28-7 lead.
The Reivers opened scoring in the next quarter with a safety against the Conqs for two-points before nabbing another touchdown against DC3.
With 5:48 left on the clock, the Conqs would score their second and final touchdown of the game.
Mark Thompson put in a four-yard run and with the extra point kick, the Conqs would close the gap 37-14.
The rest of the second quarter remained scoreless, but Iowa Western would manage to put up two touchdowns in the third quarter and two field goals in the fourth to own the 57-14 victory on the day.
Deondre Ford put in 14 completions in 27 total attempts for 181 total yards. He was intercepted twice. Ford also helped the effort with four carries for 18 yards.
Paul Campbell also saw some time as the play-caller, posting two completions in four attempts for four total yards. He was intercepted once.
Thompson led the rushing effort with 41 total yards on 17 carries, averaging 2.4 yards per carry. He owned the only two touchdowns the Conqs put up.
Toma King was second in the effort with 15 carries for 30 yards.
James Newton,
William French and
Jeff George all netted the biggest receiving numbers with Newton leading the pack with 57 yards on two catches including a 54-yard long catch.
French posted four catches for 41 yards while George was also good for four catches and 40 total yards.
Steve Knoche punted a total of seven times for 174 yards, averaging 43.5 yards per punt.
LaDarrian Bowman led the Conqs defense with four solo blocks and eight assisted blocks.
Sidney Hammond and
Caleb Slaughter also helped the effort. Hammond owned six total blocks, two of which were solo while Slaughter was good for six, three of which were on his own.
Aaron Thomas posted the Conqs only sack, pushing back the Iowa offense three yards on the play.
The Conqs will return home on Saturday, September 27, where they will matchup against KJCCC opponent's Hutchinson at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
