Box Score GREAT BEND, Kansas: Equal competition on both sides proved for an exciting watch for fans in Great Bend, Kansas. Unfortunately a few costly fouls with merely seconds left on the clock resulted in a 63-64 DC3 loss to nationally ranked #11 NOC-Enid in the Barton Classic.
The Conqs trailed by one, 32-31 in the first half, and both teams evenly scored 32 points in the second half to give the opposition the one-point victory.
DC3 opened up with a 5-2 lead to start the game, but quickly gave up the advantage to NOC-Enid who took a 11-point run against the Conqs to go up 13-5 with 14:10 left on the clock.
Both teams steadily scored back and forth with the Conqs slowly closing the gap. Dodge came as close as a one-point deficit, but were unsuccessful in tying things up or gaining the lead. As a result, NOC-Enid closed out the first half up 32-31.
The opposition opened up the second with a few points, edging away from the Conqs for a 50-43 advantage with roughly 12 minutes of play left on the clock.
DC3 refused to sit down quietly, working back from the seven-point deficit to even the score 56-56 with 6:04 left to go.
The game stayed neck and neck throughout with the Conqs earning their biggest lead of the game 63-60 with 3:40 left in the game.
It was at this point that fouls cost the Conqs, with NOC-Enid closing the three-point gap on free throw shots. With 1:26 left, the game was tied 63-63 and the Conqs had the ball.
A missed jumper returned the ball to the opposition and another foul with five seconds left was good for two shots would end the game. The shooter made one and lost one, but with five seconds left,
Antania Newton's last minute three-point attempt was no good, ending the game with a 64-63 decision on the day.
DC3 was good for 40.0 percent from the field and 40.9 from long distance after hitting 24 field goals and going 9-22 from the outside.
Azaria Nave led the team with 17 points after shooting 50 percent from the field (6-12) and hitting an almost perfect 5-6 from 3-point range. She also led the Conqs with four assists and two steals on the night.
Keiwanna Patterson also hit double-digits in the game with 15 points after hitting five from the field, three from long range and going 2-2 from the charity stripe. She collected one assist as well for the Conqs.
Johlicia Williams led the team with six off the board, all of which she pulled down on the defensive side.
Kandra Gasaway helped out with five rebounds and seven points while tallying one block, steal and assist for DC3.
