Box Score CHANUTE, Kansas: Despite outshooting match hosts Neosho County 22-10 throughout 90:00 of play, an unfortunate penalty opportunity edged NCCC towards a 2-1 victory over Dodge City.
"Our men played probably their best game of the season tonight," commented head coach
Tim Romanello. "We dictated almost every aspect of the game tonight...possession, 50/50 duels, the pace, defended with organization."
"But it rips your heart out when one tiny mistake, one rushed sequence of pressure changes all of that."
Neosho scored first in the 15
th minute of play, but Dodge followed in the 24
th minute with a goal of their own off the foot of
Mauro Hipolito.
Hipolito put in three shots on goal in six total shots on the day.
The opposition picked up the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 35
th minute of play, eventually earning the 2-1 victory.
"We are dangerous," continued Romanello. "If there was one bit that I could change, it would be our creativity needed width in the final third tonight."
"They were organized and good in the air, but we played straight forward and tried to do a bit too much forcing things forward."
Ben Carter also had a few shots at a goal with three shots on in five shots for the Conqs.
Adrian Torres,
Hector Navarro,
Rene Rodriguez and
Ross Rodgers all had one shot on goal against Neosho.
Alex Rodela picked up four saves during the match with three coming in the first half and one in the second.
"It's Neosho's league to win, now. There is no fault in our loss tonight," finished Romanello. "We lost to the team that will probably win the conference, and we went at them all game long."
"We just needed a bit of luck tonight."
With the loss, the Conqs dropped to 9-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
