Another Top 10 opponent stood in front of the Dodge City men's soccer team, as many have over the past few years, with head coach
Juan Espinal putting together a challenging schedule. The Conqs faced off with #1 Indian Hills in just the second game of the 2026 season in a neutral site contest in Baldwin City, Kansas, at Baker University.
The Conquistadors battled the #1 team in the country but ultimately dropped the matchup 1-0 as Indian Hills scored a late goal to grab the victory.
The Conqs found themselves on the defensive early in the contest as Indian Hills controlled the pace and started to fire shots while the Conqs had limited counter chances. Despite being outshot 16-1 in the first half, the Conqs kept Indian Hills off the scoreboard, and the match remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes. In the second half, the offensive opportunities opened for the Conqs, getting a solid look on goal by
Brian Hara and
Sota Kido, but they were unable to score. The match remained scoreless until the 77
th when Indian Hills put a ball into the box off a corner and found the back of the net. Conqs were unable to get another solid look and dropped the matchup 1-0.
Despite being outshot 33-7 in the matchup, the Conqs were competitive and displayed a stout defense, holding the #1 team in the country to just one goal.
Leonardo Acquarone, in his collegiate debut, recorded 10 saves in goal for the Conqs.
Conqs hit the road and head to Texas as they continue non-conference play on Friday, August 28
th, and Sunday, August 30
th, when they play a pair of games in Snyder, Texas, against Western Texas and Ranger, respectively.
