Dodge City softball continued to put up some big offensive numbers this season as they picked up two more victories via run-rule on Thursday, 22-1 and 17-0 over Dakota College at Bottineau.
The wins move the Conquistadors to 18-8 on the season and are the 13th and 14th wins by run-rule this season.
Conference play continues for the Conqs as they return to the diamond on Saturday, March 14th, against Pratt for a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
Game 1 – Won 22-1 vs Dakota College at Bottineau (5 innings)
After giving up a leadoff walk that came around to score in the top of the first inning, the Conqs surrendered only two more base runners to Dakota College in the first game of the day while batting around in three straight innings themselves. In the bottom of the first, the Conqs tallied eight runs on seven hits, including a three-run homer by
Sophie Faidley and a two-run homer by
Riley Moore. The second inning saw the Conqs notch six hits, along with two walks and two hit batters to drive in 10 runs, highlighted by
Avery McCloskey belting a three-run home run. Again, the Conqs batted around in the third and tallied four more runs and cruised to the 22-1 five-inning win.
Conqs pounded out 19 hits with seven Conqs recording a multi-hit game.
Loren Sweat was 3-3 with three runs scored, a double, a triple, two RBI, and a walk, while
Kloe Nelson also went 3-3 with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Faidley finished 3-4 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs scored.
Karli George and
Karen Galaviz each added a 2-2 performance, while
Harley Shoaf and
Riley Moore both recorded two hits.
In the circle, McCloskey got the win in three innings of work, giving up one run on two walks and striking out five.
Jordyn Boxberger tossed the final two innings without giving up a run, hit, or walk and struck out two.
Game 2 – Won 17-0 vs Dakota College at Bottineau (5 innings)
The parade of runs continued for the Conqs in game two as they wasted no time getting on the board, scoring eight runs in the first inning of the second game. The Conqs took advantage of a pair of errors by Dakota College and got a double by Boxberger to get on the board quickly, then with two outs had six batters reach base safely, leading to an 8-0 lead.
Dezarae Schmidt hit a home run in the second to extend the Conqs lead to 9-0, and then four more runs came in for the Conqs in the third, highlighted by an RBI double from McCloskey and two RBI doubles by Cameron Moses. Four more runs were tallied for good measure by the Conqs in the fourth before sitting down Dakota College in order in the fifth to grab the 17-0 victory.
In the circle, George earned the win by tossing three scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three. While
Shyann Clark tossed the final two innings, facing the minimum six batters and striking out four of them. Clark also added a 2-2 performance at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
Conqs overall offensively in game two had 15 hits with six multi-hit games.
Danica Miller was 3-4 with four runs scored and an RBI to lead the way. McCloskey went 2-4 with two doubles, four RBI, and a run scored. Boxberger added a 2-4 game with three RBI, a double, and two runs scored. Schmidt was 2-3 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored. While Moses and Clark each had two hits.
